we liked the friendliness of alan and donald .

the only thing that we didnt like was the musty damp smell .we bought air freshner and got on with it and had a lovely time at hotel .if you removed the carpet in the hallway it would make a great difference .for this reason i wouldnt recomend the hostel ,when we got home all our clothes smelt of damp.otherwise yes we liked living in glenfield hostel

Could be a lovely hotel again with some money spent on it.Bloke in charge was lovely.Main public area was pretty reasonable...however there had been water damage in the stairwell area and it stank!! Carpet needs to be thrown out.Upper corridor was also pervaded by this smell escaping from the stairs. My room was fine although a little bit sad at the window area.My friends' room at the back was a little sadder still. However the rooms were clean and well looked after in the short term sense....hoovered, clean etc. The accommodation was probably slightly better than we expected.....not much to complain about for the price....good value for money.....but please tell them to get rid of the stair carpet!!

Very pleasantly surprised. Alan was very welcoming and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Convenient to walk into Ullapool. Value for money.

A bar or somewhere to get drinks, hot or cold, would be welcome.

The person Alan who looked after the hotel and the people, provided an excellent service. He was extremely helpful, patient and kind, even when he was very busy. Although this was a hostel, it felt more like a hotel, due to the service provided and the accommodation.

Excellent value for money in a fairly central location. Liked being able to use sauna which was free, despite no shower head!

No change of towels for duration of stay - 4 nights and no replenishing of toilet rolls. Supplied kettle in room but no cups, tea/coffee etc. Would have liked TV in room but realise that the cheap rate of room would prohibit this. Also, there was a bar in the hotel which remained closed for the duration of our stay.

Our room was spotlessly clean and the sheets were white crisp and clean. You have to make your own bed but so what? It claims to be a mere hostel. You get no tv (big deal), no coffee or tea (although you do get a kettle), and no little bottles of soap and shampoo (so what). Breakfast is simple - cereal toast tea/coffee and oranje juice. A good start to get you ready for lunch. At £40 per room per night it is the best value hotel (oops hostel) I have ever stayed at. If you want more than the basics then stay somewhere else - and pay a great deal more. We loved it.

    Cheap, clean, decent.

No toilet paper provided, had to ask for it; no toilet brush either, we had to leave the toilet dirty.

Value for money. The price is really low in comparison to other places in the town.

Really basic breakfast, though I understand this was a budget hotel, but the breakfast could have been better.

description on Booked.net does not match the reality, for example: no internet, check in /out time , etc the corridor had an awful smell(dump place), really smelled like the hotel has been abandonned for years and just reopened. the room had the same smell but even stronger. I had a sore throat after 10min in the room. We left the window open for 2 hours and it did not help. we asked to change room for the reason exposed before and the staff offered us.... air freshner! in the end, we did not sleep in the room and the 2 of us (me and my GF) slept in a single bed! after we moved one of our mats in the other single room occupied by my GF mother. this room was on the first floor and had a bearable smell Nothing compulsory, not even soap! not mentionned on Booked.net

Excellent value in this day and age : a bed ,a bath and a breakfast and I got all three. Also, only 5 minutes walk from the town centre where there are good restaurants and pubs. Pleasant staff added to the stay. It is ideal for people like me who are visiting the mountains and they require the essentials or backpackers and students. I would definitely visit again. On the down side it could perhaps benefit from a little money spent on it but then that would need to be passed on in higher prices and a different type of visitor. There is definitely a customer market for this hostel given the mountain environment on your doorstep. Thanks , John Wood

I have no real complaints. However, I think it tends to undersell itself a little. It is tucked away, the hostel sign is hidden a bit. Perhaps a lick of paint here and there and the grounds maintained would add to the attraction without adding too much to the owner's costs. However, I know money is tight in these financial times. Good luck

The location, magnificnt views; the relaxed and friendly atmosphere; the staff - especially Alan; the sauna; the tranquility; the price.

The lack of investment - the owners seem to be running it into the ground; the weather!

You get what you pay for. We new this wasn't going to be a 5 star hotel when we booked. All we wanted was somewhere to lay our heads after a busy day travelling. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
